In everyday ordering contexts, users often perform selection tasks that require rapid responses through digital interfaces. Even small inefficiencies in these interactions can negatively affect user experience, particularly in time-sensitive situations. The present research investigates whether the cognitively grounded design principle of sensory correspondence can improve search performance and usability in digital menu interfaces. Specifically, we examine heaviness-location congruency, which refers to the association between heaviness and spatial position. Two experiments were conducted using café menu interfaces. Experiment 1 tested the basic effect of heaviness-location congruency in a simplified two-item selection task. Experiment 2 extended this paradigm to a more ecologically valid grid-based interface, evaluating usability in terms of effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction, and incorporating eye-tracking measures to explore underlying visual search processes. The results showed that congruent interface designs facilitated visual search performance and improved usability, particularly in terms of efficiency. Eye-movement patterns further supported these findings, indicating more efficient gaze behavior under congruent conditions. These findings suggest that applying sensory correspondence principles to interface design can enhance user performance and usability in digital menu interfaces.
