A STUDY ON UGANDA’S ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT : A MACROECONOMIC VIEW

초록/요약

This research investigates Uganda’s economic development based on macroeconomic determinants, a topic of significant importance in international business and economic development. The study focuses on how macroeconomic determinants, such as Foreign Direct Investment, impact economic development. Inward FDI is acknowledged as a vital driver of economic development in emerging economies, and Uganda, as a developing country, is actively implementing reforms to attract FDI. However, the specific role of FDI inflows in facilitating economic development, particularly in Uganda's unique financial ecosystem, has not been thoroughly researched. Using annual time series data from 2000 to 2022, this research quantifies FDI’s short-run influence on economic development alongside other macroeconomic variables, contributing to a better understanding of the role of FDI in economic development. The findings demonstrate that FDI significantly contributes to capital infusion, technology transfer, and productivity growth, provided it’s complemented with other macroeconomic variables in Uganda’s economic landscape. This research contributes to the research literature on Uganda by providing empirical insights into the impact of FDI amidst Uganda's unique financial ecosystem, which can guide economic stakeholders in optimising the developmental implications of macroeconomic factors. The results are particularly relevant for developing economies that leverage FDI as a catalyst for sustainable development alongside other macroeconomic variables.
