The Connected Smart Ecosystem: A Longitudinal Analysis of Media Consumption, Media Literacy, and Wellbeing Dynamics in Korea

초록/요약

This research investigates the relationship between media consumption, media literacy, and wellbeing in the context of a rapidly evolving connected smart devices ecosystem. Utilizing the Korea media panel survey, we examine how these factors interact and influence mental health over time. Multiple theories relate to our study paradigm (uses and gratifications, media literacy, social cognitive, cultivation, and technological determinism theories). The study aims to understand the complex relationship between household media environments, individual characteristics, and media consumption patterns. Our research highlights the moderating role of personal characteristics (age, self-esteem) on the relationship between media literacy, media consumption, and wellbeing, considering the increasing integration of connected smart devices. Findings indicate that connected smart devices influence these outcomes, but the effects can vary depending on individual characteristics. These findings have implications for understanding the evolving digital landscape and promoting media literacy in the connected home.
