Recently, due to the miniaturization of display backlights, interest in blue light-emitting quantum dots is increasing. Quantum dots are attracting attention as a next-generation display material with high color gamut, but the development of blue QDs is necessary to realize perfect self-luminous QLEDs. The inherent inferior photophysical properties of blue light-emitting materials remain a challenge. Many groups have implemented Cd-based quantum dots, but it is unknown whether they can be used commercially due to the toxicity of Cds. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a Cd-free and eco-friendly blue QD. Here, we present the synthesis of ZnSe-based blue-emitting quantum dots using a fast-reactive bis(trimethylsilyl)selenium compound. Light emission of 440 nm to 460 nm or more was obtained by using the SILAR method, which is a method in which positive and negative ions are alternately added. We also performed spectral analysis according to the ratio of Zn to Se. In addition, high-efficiency blue QDs and a maximum quantum yield of 53.2% were achieved by using a hydrofluoric acid and zinc chloride additive to remove stacking defects in the ZnSe crystal structure to increase the luminous efficiency.
