An approach to investigate technology opportunities : The use of SAOx analysis

빠르게 기술이 발전하고 시장이 변화함에 따라, 기업들은 시장에서 우위를 점하기 위해 다양한 기술 기회를 탐색하고 있다. 특허는 기술 기회를 탐색하기 위한 신뢰 높은 정보 원천으로서, 최근에는 특허 내 비정형텍스트 영역을 분석하고 이를 통해 기술기회를 포착하고자 하는 연구가 다양한 산업영역에서 수행되고 있다. 기술에 대한 시장의 요구가 다양화됨에 따라, 기술의 활용 측면에서 개발 목적이나 개발 효과를 분석하는 것은 시장 선점에 있어 매우 중요한 활동이라고 할 수 있지만, 특허 내 비정형텍스트가 갖는 분석의 어려움 때문에 기존의 연구들에서는 이에 대한 분석이 미약한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 기술 개발 목적 및 효과 등을 더욱 깊이 있고 시스템적으로 분석하기 위하여, 기존의 Subject-Action-Object (SAO) 방법론을 보완한 SAOx 방법론을 제안한다. 연구는 다음과 같이 진행된다. 첫째, 특허 데이터를 수집하고 전처리 과정을 거친다. 둘째, 기술대체용어와 39가지 Engineering parameters를 기반으로 분석 대상 SAO를 선별한다. 셋째, 분석 대상 SAO로부터 기술 구성, 개발 분야, 개발 목적 및 효과에 관한 기술 정보를 추출한다. 넷째, SAOx 분석을 통해 개발 목적 및 효과에 관한 정보를 추가로 추출한다. 다섯 째, HMI 기술을 사례로 추출한 기술 정보 간 관계 분석을 통하여, 기술 동향을 파악하고 기술 기회를 탐색한다. 본 연구는 특허 분석 관점에서, 기존의 분석 방법들에 비해 특허 내에서 추출 가능한 기술 정보의 범위를 확장 시켰다는 점에서 의의를 가진다. 또한 시장의 요구에 따라 다양한 목적과 효과를 지닌 기술이 개발되는 환경 속에서, 기술 개발의 목적 및 효과에 대한 정보를 더 풍부하고 상세하게 제공함으로써 기업들의 R&D 의사결정을 지원한다.

As technology develops and market changes rapidly, firms explore diverse technology opportunities for gaining a competitive advantage over rival firms. Patent is a reliable information resource for technology opportunities. Recently, researches on analyzing un-structured text data in patents and seizing technology opportunities are being conducted in various industrial fields. Since the market demand for technology is diversified, analyzing a development purpose and effectiveness is essential part in patent analysis. However, due to the difficulty of the analysis about un-structured text data, previous studies have been insufficient. In this vein, to analyze technological information such as development purpose and effectiveness systematically, this research proposes the Subject-Action-Object(SAO)x method that complements the existing SAO method. This research process is as follows. First, we collect patent data and do the data pre-processing. Second, we select target SAOs based on the invention terminology that we suggest and 39 engineering parameters in TRIZ. Third, we extract technological information about technology component, application area, development purpose and effectiveness from target SAOs. Fourth, additional information about development purpose and effectiveness is extracted. And finally, we identify technology trends and explore technology opportunities with Human-Machine Interface(HMI) technology as a case study.
