MIGRATION OF NEPALESE YOUTH FOR EMPLOYMENT IN SOUTH KOREA : PROBLEMS AND PROSPECTS

The title of this study is Migration of Nepalese youth for employment in South Korea: Problems and Prospects. This study is to queries why do youth people decide to migrate to South Korea from Nepal, and what are the problems and prospects for Nepalese youth for employment in South Korea? This study aims to explore the problems of Nepalese youth migration for employment in South Korea and anticipates its prospects. The specific objectives of this study are to evaluate socio-economic status of family whose family members are working in South Korea, to understand the causes and consequences of migration from Nepal to South Korea, and to explore problems and prospects for Nepalese youth in South Korea for working. This study is mainly based on secondary information and partly based on primary information where purposive random sampling method is used for collecting information from 45 respondents using open-ended questionnaire. Besides this to reach at the aim of this study, the researcher use key-informant interview and focus group discussion. Nepal has a prevalence of poverty and unemployment that causes to migrate the Nepalese youth to South Korea for foreign job where has an attractive salary and safe environment. The respondents save 1.3 million Korean won in average which is a huge amount for Nepalese people. Migration to South Korea from Nepal is a beneficent to the country as well as family of workers due to remittances that improves the socio-economic status, quality education of children and gender equality. Despite the negative effects of country, workers will learn new skill in South Korea and will start the business after returning to Nepal due to good economic condition. Nepalese workers have got troubles as heavy works, owners’ behavior, salary, rest, separation with family, pressure on work and so on that will be major to commit suicide sometimes. Agriculture and small factory may have tortures to workers than big ones. Nowadays Nepali workers face the Hundi system problem due to expensive of bank system. Researcher finds out the Nepalese government and Korean government make the adequate policies and rules for the sake of workers that should be implemented. Migration to South Korea from Nepal should be continued unless the country is not developed.
