자비명상 프로그램이 소수집단에 대한 편견 감소 및 이타성에 미치는 효과

본 연구는 자비명상이 대학생들의 동남아이주민에 대한 편견 감소와 이타성에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 확인하고자 하였다. 이전까지 명상 연구는 웰빙, 스트레스 감소, 불안 및 우울 등 개인적인 심리적 변인에 관한 연구는 활발히 진행하였으나, 사회 및 집단관계에서 명상이 미치는 영향력에 관해서는 미비한 실정이다. 그렇기에 사회적으로 낙인찍힌 집단에 대한 태도가 자비명상 수련의 효과로 개선하는지를 검증하였다. 본 연구에서는 심리학 교양 과목을 듣는 대학생들을 대상으로 참가자를 모집하였고, 이들은 자비명상, 토론집단, 비처치집단 중 하나로 무선 할당하였다. 자비명상 집단은 자비명상의 이해를 돕기 위한 심리교육과 실습(30분)으로 구성하였고, 토론집단은 명상 실습을 제외한 자비와 이타심에 관련한 주제로 토론하였으며, 비처치집단은 아무런 처치를 가하지 않았다. 측정도구로 감정온도, 아주연민사랑척도(A-CLS), 이타행동 설문지를 사용하였다. T-test, 공변량 분석을 실시하여 동남아이주민에 대한 편견, 이타성, 이타행동이 사전-사후 값이 변화하였는지를 검증하고, 세 집단 간에 차이가 있는지를 확인하였다. 그 결과 자비명상 집단은 토론집단, 비처치집단에 비해 동남아 감정온도(동남아이주민에 대한 편견), 모르는 동남아인에 대한 도움행동 및 기부행동에서 유의미한 증가를 보였으며 세 집단 간에 차이가 나타났다. 이는 자비명상이 소수집단에 대한 편견 감소뿐만 아니라 그들을 향한 이타행동에도 효과가 있음을 보여준 연구라는 점에서 의의가 있다.
