수학 중심 STEAM 교육 관련 연구 동향

The Analysis on Domestic Research Trends for STEAM Education of Mathematics

초록/요약

우리나라의 초·중등 학생들의 수학과 과학에 대한 흥미와 이해를 향상시키기 위해 교육과학기술부가 2011년 업무계획 보고서에서 STEAM 교육을 주요 정책으로 발표하면서 STEAM 교육에 대한 관심이 꾸준히 증가하고 있다. 현재 여러 연구자들의 연구에서 STEAM 교육에 대해 막연하게 긍정적인 효과를 기대하고는 있지만 실제로 STEAM을 어떻게 적용해야 하는지의 문제와 교사의 역할이나 교사의 지도에 대한 학생들의 기대 반응 등과 같은 연구는 미흡한 상태로 많은 연구가 필요한 실정이다. 앞으로 활발히 진행될 STEAM 교육에 대한 연구들의 불필요한 중복을 피할 수 있도록 현재까지 진행된 연구들을 정리할 필요에서 본 연구는 시작하였다. 본 연구는 최근 발표된 STEAM 교육과 관련된 국내 연구를 한국교육학술정보원을 이용하여 ‘STEAM’, ‘융합인재교육’으로 검색하였다. 검색된 논문 중 내용이 본 연구의 주제와 관계없는 것들을 제외하여 학위논문 252편과 학술 논문 225편, 총 477편의 논문을 분석하였고, 그 중 수학 중심의 STEAM 교육관련 논문 53편 다시 분석하였다. 국내 연구 논문의 분석 결과 STEAM 교육과 관련된 연구는 프로그램이나 지도방안 등의 개발 연구가 가장 많이 이루어지고 있다. 대상별로는 중·고등학생을 대상으로 한 연구보다 초등학생을 대상으로 한 연구가 가장 많았다. 아직까지 과학 중심의 연구가 주를 이루고 있었다. 수학 중심의 STEAM 교육 연구 논문은 전체 연구 논문에 비해 적은 비율을 보였다. 수학 중심 STEAM 교육 관련 연구 논문들에서도 국내 연구 논문의 현상처럼 개발 연구가 가장 활발하며, 중·고등학생을 대상으로 한 연구보다 초등학생을 대상한 연구가 많았으며, 특히 영재를 대상으로 한 연구의 비율이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 STEAM 교육과 관련된 논문의 분석을 통해 국어와 사회 교과목과 관련된 연구와 중·고등학생을 대상으로 한 연구가 필요하며, 교수학습과 연계된 평가 부분에서 많은 연구가 필요하다는 결론을 얻었다.
