초록/요약
This study aims to find out the perspective and reasoning of the emergence of authoritarian regimes in South Korea based on the available fact and figures. Studying the contemporary historical literatures and comparing with other countries, this study reveals that the political disorder, much dependence on US aid and poor economic condition were the main reasons of the emergence of the authoritarianism in South Korea. The authoritarian government justified their coup with the vision of economic development, which was accepted by the people. The basic development of South Korea started with the commitment of the then government. South Korean authoritarian government is different from many other countries because the will of the government was pressurized by both internal and external factors. Colonial experience and then US army administration have taught the Korean military government to be different from conventional authoritarianism. Therefore, this study concludes that Korean authoritarian regime is different from others and it was highly motivated and commitment for the development of the country.
