ANALYSIS AND IMPACT ON INTEGRATING SOLAR ENERGY IN NATIONAL GRID OF TANZANIA.-CASE STUDY NORTHERN PART OF

초록/요약

The thesis explained about the Renewable energy integration to the National grid of Tanzania. The selected area is the Northern part of Zanzibar Island located eastern of Tanzania in Indian Ocean. The aim of this thesis is to analyses the economic and technical aspects after integration of renewable energy in northern area of Zanzibar Island, we selected this area because of increasing economic activities in the island, as we know that Zanzibar depends mainly on Tourism Industry. Complaint of low Voltages in the northern areas also make us to select and do thesis on selected area since other parts of the islands has no access of electricity. The integration will make it to have more expansion of electricity network for affordable price. The program that used in our thesis is HOMER software because it is easy to access on getting some data example, Solar and wind data directly downloaded from NASA and NREL.. HOMER Software will be able to elaborate and do analysis on economic and technical perspectives, since its friendly used for renewable energy projects especially hybrid systems. At the end of our thesis we will have advantages on , reducing the complaint on low Voltages, extension of electricity infrastructures, reducing loss on the network , decrease the number of outages in the Northern part of the island LIST OF ABREVIATION EWURA Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority ZURA Zanzibar Utilities Regulatory Authority HOMER Hybrid Optimization of Multiple Energy Resources NREL National Renewable Energy Laboratory MW Megawatt KW Kilowatt NASA National Aeronautics and space Administration PV Photo Voltaic RE Renewable Energy IPP Independent Power Producer PPP Private Public Partnership LCOE Levelized Cost of Electricity KWh Kilowatt Hour ZECO Zanzibar Electricity Cooperation TANESCO Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited WB World Bank SPP Small power Projects AC Alternating Current DC Direct Current IMF International Monetory Fund GDP Gross Domestic Product
