THE STRUGGLE TO NATIONHOOD: THE CASE STUDY OF BIAFRA AND THE EMERGENCE OF THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLE OF BIAFRA (IPOB)

It has been more than five decades after the Biafra war; lots of activities have been on to see that sovereign state comes alive. There have been series of demands going on within and outside the southeast Nigeria; they think the government has abandoned the region giving less concentration. A group of individual known as the indigenous people of Biafra rose to challenge the position of the government concerning their plight. After the incoming of the new government in 2015, the indigenous people of Biafra arose, there grievance was that they were socio-economically, politically marginalized, which led to series of protest within and outside the country. The manner and approach the government is handling the issue calls for urgent attention. Through this study we are able to know what led to the re-occurring demand to secede and self-determination, the possible effect it could have on the economy, what the government needs to do in order address the issue either by adopting an inclusive approach or through referendum.
