김남조 시에 나타나는 주체와 타자의 관계 양상 연구

초록/요약
본 논문은 김남조의 시세계에 대한 기존의 연구가 사랑의 시학의 관점으로는 충분히 연구되어 왔지만 김남조의 시에서 주체와 타자와의 관계양상이 드러남에도 불구하고 이에 주목한 연구는 없었다는 문제의식에서 출발하였다. 따라서 본고는 김남조 시에 나타나는 주체와 타자의 관계양상을 연구하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 김남조의 시에는 자기만을 바라보다 전쟁을 계기로 타자를 발견하는 모습이 나타난다. 시인은 전후의 상처와 절망의 극복과 희생자들에 대한 진혼 등을 감성적으로 표현하며 한국 전쟁의 체험을 형상화함으로써 타자에 대한 윤리성을 깨닫고 절대적 사랑을 지향하는 모습을 보인다. 이런 면에서 김남조의 시에 드러나는 주체와 타자의 관계양상은 레비나스의 타자에 관한 사유로 해석할 수 있다. 시인은 막연한 고독의 상태에서 점차 존재를 인식한다. 존재를 인식하는 것은 물질적 기초 위에 자신의 자리를 만드는 것이다. 시인이 존재를 인식하는 것은 자기와 관계하여 주체로서 자신을 정립하고 자신으로서 시작할 수 있는 자유이다. 존재 자체에서 오는 고독으로부터 존재를 인식해 나가는 시인은 자연을 향유하면서 자기를 완성하여 내면성을 확립하는 모습을 나타낸다. 향유를 통해 내면성을 확립한 시인은 자신의 세계를 형성하는 과정에서 거주의 공간을 통해 안정성과 힘을 부여받는다. 따뜻하고 친밀한 공간 안에서의 거주는 좀 더 깊은 자기의식에 이르러 독립성을 획득한다. 다음으로 김남조의 시에는 사랑의 성취를 지향하는 모습이 보인다. 타자에게 감추어진 것을 찾는 행위는 사랑의 감정이 뜨거워질수록 더욱 절실해지지만 여성적 자아와 남성적 자아가 하나로 융합될 수 있는 것은 아니다. 시인은 사랑으로 자신의 존재를 유지하면서 타자가 개입될 수 있는 가능성을 본다. 고통이나 죽음과도 같은 사랑으로 열린 타자의 공간은 인격적 타자, 전적인 타자로서의 타인을 만날 수 있는 공간으로 확대된다. 김남조의 시에서 타자와의 관계는 죽음으로 다가오기도 한다. 시인은 전쟁의 경험과 그에 따른 일상의 고통에서 죽음을 만난다. 죽음은 내가 어떻게 해볼 수 없는 전적인 수동성의 경험으로서 절대적인 타자이다. 시인은 자기 존재 안에 머무르던 자신을 벗어나 타자의 고통을 바라본다. 시인은 전쟁이라는 죽음의 고통이 확산된 현실 안에서 타자의 죽음을 바라보며 상실감에 젖어 있는 것 밖에 할 수 없는 상태로 서 있다. 전쟁으로 인해 수동적인 상태에 놓여 있는 시인은 타자의 죽음을 애도한다. 이는 스스로가 타자에게 무한하게 노출되어 있음을 알아가는 과정이며, 타자를 돌봐야하는 의무가 자신이 망각할 수 없는 현실임을 인정하게 되는 길이다. 시인은 생명이 상실되어가는 현실 속에서 재생의 의지를 갖고 주체성을 회복해 나간다. 김남조의 시에는 타자를 자각하고 주체를 회복한 시인이 타자의 무력함과 상처를 받아들이는 모습이 나타난다. 시인은 모든 것이 박탈된 채 궁핍한 얼굴로 나타난 타자를 타자로서 윤리적으로 인정하며 초월을 지향함으로써 주체성을 구성한다. 타자의 얼굴과의 만남으로 형성된 주체성이 죽음으로 사라지지 않을까하는 불안은 출산을 통해 소멸된다. 시인은 출산으로 타자의 미래 안에서 자신의 한계를 초월하는 모습을 보인다. 시인의 존재의미는 자신에게 있는 것이 아니라 타자의 미래에 있다. 이는 자기중심적 존재로서의 의미 부여에서 필연적으로 야기되는 죽음에 대한 불안을 사라지게 한다. 타자를 대리하는 자리에 서 있는 시인은 고통을 감내하는 자의 무거움을 드러내기도 하지만 진지한 성찰로 더욱 단단해지는 모습을 보인다. 시인은 이웃에 대한 책임과 초월하고자 하는 욕망을 가지고 윤리적 주체로서 근본적인 자신의 주체성을 이룬다. 타자의 고통을 대속하는 것은 시인의 주체성이자 고유성으로 다가온다.

While Kim Nam Jo’s poetry shows close relationships between the subject and the other, the prior works on her poetry mainly have been studied in the aspect of love. This paper was motivated by the fact that there is little noteworthy work for Kim Nam Jo’s world of poetry in the aspect of the subject and the other. This work therefore focuses on studying the relationships between the subject and the other shown in Kim Nam Jo’s poetry. Kim Nam Jo’s poetry shows the one who watches only oneself but finally finds the other through a war. She emotively expresses the overcome of the despair and wound of a war, and the requiem for the victims of war. The poet understands the ethicality of the other and aims for the absolute love by describing the experiences of the Korean war. In this aspect, the relationships between the subject and the other shown in Kim Nam Jo’s poetry can be analyzed by the Levinas’s the reasoning for the other. The poet gradually realizes an existence in the state of solitude. Realizing an existence is to build one’s position on a physical base. It is to establish oneself as the subject, and it’s also the freedom to start as oneself. The poet, who starts to notice the existence from the solitude coming from the existence itself, shows the appearance that she establishes the inner side enjoying the nature. The poet who established her inner side by enjoyment is given for a stability and power through the living space in the process of developing the world of herself. The residence in a warm and familiar space makes a deeper self-consciousness, and the poet obtains independence. Kim Nam Jo’s poetry shows the eager for the achievement of love. While looking for a hidden thing of the other becomes urgent as the feeling of love grows, a feminine ego and masculine one cannot be merged. The poet keeps the existence of herself through the love, and sees the possibility that the other can be intervened. the space of the other, which is opened by the love being like a pain or death, is expanded to the space where one can meet a moral the other or a absolute the other. The relationships with the other may approach as death. The poet meets death through the experience of war and following agony. the death is an absolute other that one cannot avoid. Within the situation that the agony of death has been spreaded over, the poet stands in the state that she can’t help but feeling a great sense of loss looking the death of the other . The poet who in the passive state due to war, mourns the death of the other . This is the process for poet to know that the poet herself is completely exposed to the other , and to concede that caring the other is unforgettable reality. The poet gets on recovering independence within the situation in which the life is being disappeared. In Kim Nam Jo’s poetry, It is shown that the poet, who realizes the other and recovers subjecthood, accepts the feebleness and the wound of the other. The poet embodies subjecthood by ethically conceding the other as the other, who is appeared having a poor face being deprived of all. The anxiety that the subjecthood, which is developed by meeting with the face of the other, may be disappeared through death is disappeared through delivery. The poet transcends her limitation within the future of the other through her delivery. the meaning of existence is not in the inner side of poet but in the future of the other. This make an anxiety, which is inevitably caused by giving the meaning as an egocentric existence, disappeared. While the poet subrogating the other shows a feeling of oppression enduring the pain, she becomes strong through an earnest introspection. The poet builds her essential subjecthood as an ethical subject with responsibility for neighbor and desire to transcend. Substituting the pain of the other approaches as the poet’s subjecthood and identity.
