측지 VLBI기술을 이용한 한반도 내의 플레이트 운동 연구

Korean Peninsula is assumed to be located in a separate micro-plate, called Amurian plate(AM), other than Eurasian plate(EU). There were several works to estimate motion of AM based on Global Positioning System (GPS) data. However, existing GPS results are not well agreeing with each other, as shown in a comparison given in the present Thesis. Independent measurements of the Amurian motion with observation techniques other than GPS are desirable. We will have 4 Very Long Baseline Interferometry(VLBI) stations in Korea in near future : a geodetic VLBI station in Suwon, and 3 astronomical VLBI stations(Korean VLBI Network : KVN), which are also feasible for geodetic observations. Even though the Korean VLBI array is relatively small in size and consists of a few stations, it is possible to achieve good determination of plate motion parameters, as shown by a simulation with a small VLBI array in the North American plate(NA). Accuracy of determination of AM motion parameters with the Korean VLBI array is estimated, by assuming typical errors of station velocities measured with VLBI. The results showed that the Korean VLBI array will distinguish previous results on the AM motion and verify, or exclude, the existence of AM as a separate rigid plate, if observation accuracy of 0.2-0.5mm/yr for station velocities is achieved.

지난 20여 년간 측지 기술의 발달에 힘입어 한반도는 유라시아판과는 독립적인 아무르라고 하는 작은 플레이트에 속해 있다는 가설이 논의되어 오고 있다. 지금까지 아무르 플레이트의 운동을 추정하기 위해 GPS 데이터를 바탕으로 한 연구들이 몇몇 있었으나 본 논문에서 보이고 있듯이 그 GPS 결과들이 서로 잘 일치하지 않음을 알 수 있다. 이 시점에서 아무르 플레이트 운동의 측정을 위해서는 GPS와는 다른 독립된 관측기술이 필요하다. 앞으로 몇 년 안에 국내에는 4개의 VLBI 관측국이 설치될 계획에 있다.: 수원의 측지 VLBI 관측국과 측지 관측이 가능한 3개의 천문 VLBI관측국(Korean VLBI Network :KVN). 한국 VLBI 어레이 사이즈가 다소 작고 관측국 수가 적다고 생각할 수 있겠지만 본 논문의 북미 플레이트의 작은 VLBI 어레이를 이용한 시뮬레이션에서 보이고 있듯이 작은 크기의 어레이도 플레이트 운동 파라미터를 충분히 결정할 수가 있음을 알 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 대표적인 VLBI 관측오차를 가정하여 아무르 플레이트 운동 파라미터 결정 정확도를 추산한다. 관측국 이동 속도의 관측 정확도가 0.2-0.5mm/yr 정도에 이를 경우 그 결과는 GPS를 이용하였던 이전의 아무르 플레이트 운동연구 결과를 판별할 수 있을 것이고 아무르 플레이트의 존재여부도 확인할 수 있을 것이다.
