초록/요약
단편서사시는 1930년대 카프의 맹원이었던 임화가 처음으로 시도하고 김기진이 이론화한 실험 장르로, 당대의 현실적인 목적 의식을 시적으로 형상화하여 달성하고자 한 것이다. 본 연구에서는 임화의 단편서사시의 개념 및 양식적 특성에 중점을 두고 고찰해 보았다. 우선 단편서사시는 서사시로서의 기본 요건을 충분히 갖추지 못하고 있기 때문에 서사시의 개념을 적용시키기에 무리가 따른다. 따라서 서사체의 핵심 요소인 이야기를 시 텍스트 내에 도입하여 시적으로 형상화하는 양식인 서술시, 즉 서정시가 이야기를 서술하고 있는 서술적 서정시에 속한다. 또한 단편서사시는 프로시의 한계로 지적되었던 계급성과 예술성의 조화 문제를 해결하기 위한 것으로, 강력한 계급 의식의 표출과 대중성의 획득이라는 동시대 프로시의 두 가지 당면 목표를 효과적으로 달성하기 위해 만들어진 것이다. 임화의 단편서사시가 가지는 양식적 특성은 먼저 이야기를 도입함으로써 구체적인 현실의 모습을 반영하여 객관성을 획득하고 있다는 것을 들 수 있다. 즉 시에 이야기 내지 사건 및 직접적인 등장인물을 도입하여 현실을 구체적이고 객관적으로 묘사하고 그 속에 전형적인 상황을 그려낼 수 있는 토대를 마련한 것이다. 또한 대부분의 시들이 서간체 형식을 취하고 있는데, 이는 단순한 서사 구조를 담아낼 수 있도록 하기 위한 하나의 언술적인 장치로 볼 수 있다. 또한 이야기를 전달하는 화자는 시인과 분리된 타자로 볼 수 있으며, 단편서사시는 시 속에 화자와 청자를 설정하여 극화된 목소리로 메시지를 전달하는 방식을 취하고 있다. 임화의 단편서사시는 구체적인 현실을 이야기를 통해 반영하고 있으며, 인물, 사건, 배경 등을 당대 현실에서 전형성을 가진 것들을 다루어 집단적인 정서를 표출하고자 하는 노력을 보이고 있다. 즉 순간적 경험 속에서 당대 역사적 상황에 대한 집단적 경험이 집약되면서 개별적인 삶을 통해 드러나는 집단적 정서가 표출되고 있으며, 노동자들의 생활과 정서가 반영됨으로써 시의 리얼리티와 당대의 역사적 의의를 확보하고자 하였다. 또한 투쟁 과제의 실천이라는 목적 의식을 시 속에 형상화하고 투쟁 공간을 시적 공간으로 설정하고 있다. 이는 작품에 깔려있던 감상성을 배제하고 현실의 모순을 충실하게 드러내고자 하는 시도를 보이고 있는데, 이는 투쟁하는 노동자의 의지를 직접적으로 보다 선명하게 형상화하고 격렬하고 투쟁적인 어휘의 사용으로 적대감과 투쟁 의식을 고취하고자 한 것이다. 단편서사시는 서정 장르와 서사 장르의 특성을 적절하게 통합, 구현하여 서정 장르의 새로운 지평을 열어준 최초의 시도라 할 수 있다. 즉 이야기가 중심이 되는 서사 양식과 운율과 상징이 중심이 된 서정 양식의 결합인 것이다. 따라서 구체성을 가지고 짧은 시간 내에 독자들의 마음 속으로 파고들기에 적절한 양식으로, 당시 시단 전체의 상황에서 우리 시의 영역을 높이고 그 수준을 한 단계 높이는데 기여하였다. 그러나 사건, 이야기가 중심을 이루고 있으며, 시적 요소인 이미지나 은유, 상징과 같은 것을 철저히 배제하고 직접적이고 직설적인 어법으로 사회 문제를 다루고 있기 때문에 미적 형상화의 측면에서는 한계점도 가지고 있다.

The Short Epics wishes to materialize poetically and achieve realistic sense of purpose in present age by experiment genre that Imhwa that was KAPF's member in the 1930s tries for the first time and Kim, gi-jin theorizes. In this study, emphasized and investigate in concept of Imhwa's Short Epics and modality special quality. First, because The Short Epics does not possess enough basis essential factors as epic, group follows to apply concept of epic. Therefore, belong to narrative lyric that lyric is describing talk indeed when describe that introduce story that is narratives object central in poem text and is poetic materializing lyric poetry. Also, The Short Epics is made to achieve vent and two targets at same age program that is acquisition of popularity of strong class consciousness effectively by thing to solve harmony problem of class and art that was indicated by limit at program. A mode special quality of Imhwa's Short Epics can feel image to acquire objectivity reflecting specific actual image by introducing first story. That is, ready foundation that can describe actuality concretely and objectively by introducing tale or event and direct character to poem and display typical circumstance thereinto. Also, most poems are taking epistolary style form, this can see as device that is the one linguistic to do to have filled simple narration rescue. Also, speaker who pass story could know that is adopting method that deliver message at voice that is dramatized can see as type which is detached with poet, and establishes speaker and hearer within poem. Imhwa's Short Epics reflects specific actuality through story, and effort that wish to express collective emotion handling things which have typicality in actuality present age is shown person, event, background etc. That is, collective emotion which congregate experience about historic circumstance is detected through individual life being integrated present age within momentary experience is expressed, and life and emotion of laborers wished to secure reality of poem and historic sense in present age by being reflected. Also, is materializing sense of purpose of practice of fighting subject within poem and establish fighting space to space the poem. Attempt that this wishes to exclude appreciation which is spread in work and expose actual inconsistency faithfully is seen, this wishes to materialize fought laborer's will directly more clearly and violent and inculcate hostility and strife consciousness by use of combative vocabulary. The Short Epics can be the first reading that open new acreage of land of lyricism genre integrating properly and embodies special quality of lyricism genre and narration genre. That is, narration style and rhythm and symbol that story becomes the center are union of lyricism style that become the center. Therefore, to dig into in mind of readers in time that is short with concreteness, contributed to heighten area of our poem in poem group whole circumstance at that time and the level a phase. But, event, tale accomplishes the center, and is image or metaphor that is element of poem, and excludes thing such as emblem thoroughly and is direct and because is dealing with social problem by expression that is the plain speaking, limitation has in side of aesthetic shape.
